Mike Watson is a Madison, WI based artist and portrait painter working primarily in oils. Mike’s interest in music can be seen in his recent large scale portraits of musical icons completed in vibrant colors and an impasto painting style. Some of his earlier work is described as ‘Imaginary Realism’ in which a theme or song lyric is depicted through imagery. In most of Mike’s work there seems to be a constant – the human face.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from UW-Madison. Although largely self-aught, art was a major focus of his studies.
When not in the painting studio, Mike can be found with his partner at the cabin in the Baraboo hills, cutting fire wood, tending to the many gardens and Throwing pots in their pottery studio.
